Each printer companies’ inks have unique qualities.
Not all inks perform the same on all fabric.
HP Yields bright colors on all the cottons and silks. Their magenta is harder to hold and adds a color shift. These are best hand washed.
Epson UltraChrome, UltraBrite, or DuraBrite have the least color shift and are the most wash fast. Hand wash or machine wash gently with a mild detergent.
Epson Photo dyes can only be used for projects that will not get wet.
Lexmark Yields bright prints with stable colors on all fabrics. Hand wash for best results.
Canon Yields bright images on cottons and most silks. Hand washing only. Large format images usually do not require rinsing. Scotchgard™ can be added as protection.
ColorPlus Fabrics has tested a wide range of dye and pigmented inks from Canon, ColorSpan. HP, Ilford, ENCAD, Epson, LexMark, and Lyson inks. They all work with Color Plus inkjet printable fabric sheets! If there is a specific ink set not listed that you are using please call. (Note: Solvent inks are not environmentally friendly and we DO NOT support any solvent-based ink systems). Photo inks are specially made to work with photographic paper. It may work on fabric sheets if you heat-set it (with an iron) after printing. Test a sheet to make sure.
We have had problems with remanufactured inks (most are water-based instead of oil-based) and recommend you use only inks supplied by the manufacturer of your printer. Don’t use generic discounted internet inks or refillable inks.
Our fabric sheets are made with all natural fibers. As a rule, these fabric sheets will give you the same life as a similar fabric used in high-end garments. Treat the finished fabric with the same care as your best garment, and give careful instructions to the user if the garment is being sold or is a gift. Our Cotton Fabric Sheets can be machine washed. Our Silk Fabric Sheets can be hand washed. Use low ph soaps only (i.e. Ivory). Do not use Tide, Cheer, All, Era, etc. Just like any store bought garment, careful washing and dry-cleaning will extend the life of the garment. Test the inks you are using so you know your limits and how it reacts to light and water! To ensure other fabric doesn't bleed on your fabric sheets, rinse it in cool water with 2 T salt added.
Although you can dry clean the fabric sheets we DO NOT recommend it because individual cleaners and solutions can vary greatly.
Finally, Scotchgard™ works well with all the fabics.
